Attendance & Absence

ILLNESS
Please telephone the school office before 8.45am to inform us that your child will be absent due to illness on the first and every day of their absence. Alternatively, send an email to admin@st-nicholas.wokingham.sch.uk

PLANNED ABSENCE

The school must be notified in advance of any planned absence. For medical and dental appointments, please write a note to your child's teacher or telephone the school office. For all other planned absences which may include music/dance courses or exams, visits to secondary schools and family events, you must complete a Leave of Absence Request Form which is available from the carousel in school reception or attached above.

HOLIDAYS IN TERM TIME

All absences are closely monitored by the Education Welfare Officer at Wokingham Borough Council who communicates with the school on a regular basis.

We strongly discourage family holidays during term time. However, if such as holiday is necessary please let the school know in advance of booking it. A Leave of Absence Request Form, which is available in the school reception, must be completed.

Please be aware that unauthorised holiday absence of 5 days or more can now result in the issuing of a Penalty Notice which carries a fine of £60 or if not paid after 21 days then the fine is doubled to £120 and court prosecution if unpaid after 28 days.  Penalty Notices are served per parent, per child.

Non-payment will result in prosecution for unauthorised absence. More information is available of the Wokingham Borough Council website at https://www.wokingham.gov.uk/schools-and-education/school-information-and-services/

It is school policy not to provide homework for a child who is taken on holiday during term time.
